Also known as Earthnut, Tuberous Sweetpea is a perennial legume growing to 4′ tall and produces small sweet tubers that taste similar to sweet potato or chestnut.

Online sources describe the tubers as being a delicious taste treat but with lower yields making it unsuitable as a commercially sold crop, so don’t bother looking for it in grocery stores.

Personally, I find the tubers to be very easy and fun to dig. Since the tubers overwinter in the ground and can be dug anytime from fall until spring, it makes them a very good wintertime food source since there’s no storage worries involved, just dig them whenever you want them. And any tubers that remain in the ground in the springtime grow into new plants making it an effortless perennial crop.   Here’s your chance to give these rare culinary tubers a try for yourself.

These tubers were grown totally naturally here at Full Sky Farm
