Harvested September 2024.
These seeds have been refrigerated since I harvested and cleaned them, they are fully stratified now and ready to be planted.
Pawpaw trees are native to the United States and grow wild here in eastern Kansas. The fruits of this native variety are large and delicious.
Paw paw seeds should never be allowed to dry out because the viability of the seed will be negatively affected, they will be moist when you receive them. Pawpaws need at least three months of cold stratification before they will germinate. Stratification can either be done by planting them outdoors in the fall which is what happens in nature, or by storing them in a refrigerator so that they’re ready to germinate in the springtime.
These seeds have been cleaned, kept damp and stored properly in a refrigerator since harvested. When you receive the seeds they should be stored in a refrigerator in the plastic bag that they come in until you’re ready to plant them. If they develop some mold during storage (which can happen) it’s okay to simply wash them clean with tap water and put them back into a refrigerator for storage until planting, it does not affect the seeds viability.
