Black Mustard is an annual that grows to 4′ tall. The spicy leaves are edible raw or cooked, add to salads or soups, and grinding the seeds with a bit of cool water makes a delicious hot mustard sauce.
The fast-growing plants make an excellent cover crop for the garden, and pollinators love it’s yellow flowers. It tolerate light frosts so it’s ideal for spring and fall plantings.
