Cucuzzi is a popular Italian edible gourd, also known as Serpent of Sicily, or Cucuzza. They are most delicious when harvested when young and tender, around 12″ long. They can be cooked in all the ways zucchini and other summer squash are eaten. I personally prefer their flavor to zucchini and other squash.

A great benefit to growing them is they are not affected by insects the way squash plants often are. And a fun thing about them is that if left to mature and dry the gourds do dry into long lasting hard-shell gourds that can be used for decorating or crafts.
